Lacewood Lumber
Lacewood is a superbly decadent wood found in South American countries. Although sometimes confused for Leopardwood, Lacewood is a different type of wood altogether. They both boast an extremely rich appearance, but Lacewood is lighter, less dense, and more common than Leopardwood.
Lacewood has great workability and steam bends very well, which makes it ideal for many projects of varying size and complexity. It is used to make furniture, cabinets, joinery, paneling, ornamental inlay, and even small decorative projects like jewelry boxes and chests. It can be made into very detailed finery, as the rich texture of the wood lends itself to an opulent look.
The Lacewood tree is tall and straight, growing as high as 100 feet and to a width of four feet around the base of the trunk. The wood, when cut, features a straight grain with large rays. It virtually glows a reddish brown color and matures to a deeper brown with age. It has a moderately coarse texture, but the feel of the wood is very even and can be smoothed to perfection.
