Lyptus Lumber
Lyptus® is the trade name (or "brand" name) of a hybrid wood that is made from combining eucalyptus trees from varying plantations. The wood is farmed in Brazil and harvested exclusively by a company named Weyerhauser. It is a popular alternative to other similar-looking hardwoods like Mahogany or cherry because of its economical costs and environmentally friendly characteristics.
It is dense and strong like maple, and is produced in an eco-friendly, sustainable environment. The trees are gown on plantations in which the indigenous trees are interspersed to preserve the natural habitat of the area. This wood can be harvested much faster than similar woods. In just 14 to 16 years, a tree is ready for clearing and production. This gives Lyptus® an advantage because it becomes available much quicker than competing woods.
Lyptus® is most commonly used in flooring, but also has uses in cabinetry, furniture, and architectural millwork. It is a superior option for floors because it is highly receptive to all kinds of finishing, including lacquers, varnishes, oil, wax, and pigments. As well, it is highly workable and responds well to cutting tools.
