What millwork is needed to complete a floor installation?

To complete the installation of your hardwood floor, chances are you will need a few complimentary pieces of millwork. Listed below you will find definitions of the most common millwork styles and where they are used.

Transition from hardwood to carpet - Typically a reducer is used in this scenario

Transition from hardwood to vinyl, VCT tile, or thin ceramic tiles - A reducer or baby threshold would be used

Transition from hardwood to hardwood in doorways, etc - Use T-molding in this situation

Transition from hardwood to cermaic or stone - Use T-molding in this situation

At the perimeter of the room - To cover the required expansion gap around the perimeter of your rooms, first a baseboard is applied and nailed to the wall studs. Then a piece of either shoe molding or quarter round is affixed to the baseboard to complete the process.
