About Random Width Plank Flooring:
Historically hardwood flooring was made from the lumber available to the carpenters, since hardwood lumber is normally cut for yield and not specific dimensions boards will range in widths. Early carpenters made the most of this precious resource by simply squaring up then grooving the boards and laying them down in a random pattern. This look truly brings the feel of a custom job to any floor and is a great compliment for a hand scraped floor. The hand scraped collection is shipped as a random width product consisting of 3-1/4", 5", and 7" wide boards. The quantity of each will vary but usually the 5" is the most prevalent width followed by the 3-1/4" then 7". It is recommended that these floors be laid in a random pattern without repetition which looks 'fake'. While we feel that this is the best possible look for these floors we understand that the look does not appeal to everyone, therefore we do offer the ability to specify all 3-1/4" or all 5" for your order, we charge 15% to perform this service.
