A very dark chocolate color, wenge flooring instantly adds drama to any room. Depending on the finish, the wood can look almost black in color. When quartersawn, you will notice very fine, tan-colored lines juxtaposed next to black-brown stripes. This adds an incredible texture to the wood and gives it the feel that it’s been used as a scratching post for some wild animal.
Wenge is primarily used where rich dark colors, or contrasting light and dark accent stripes are desired.
At 26 percent harder than oak, 20 percent harder than white oak and 12 percent harder than hard maple, wenge is extremely heavy and durable. Because of its resistance to abrasion, it is very well suited for high traffic areas of flooring.
